Operation FX

Spiritually growing our children to know, love and serve God is the most important part of their education. In fact, it’s the most important part of their lives! This is why we have made it our mission. We have created Operation Family Experience (Operation FX) as an initiative designed to disciple our kids – as a team.

The statistics are scary. Research suggests that 85% of church attending children stop going to church when they leave home. When asked why, they refer to irrelevance and hypocrisy.

Operation FX was initiated by a focus group of parents here at Georgetown that recognized these statistics as a real threat to our children’s spiritual lives. We decided that basically taking our kids to church and letting the Sunday School teacher do all the work, did not follow the model in Deuteronomy 6:6-9, and decided to expect more of ourselves:

“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

Although the church is a vital resource to our children’s spiritual development, we realized that expecting the church to spiritually raise our kids is unrealistic.

Operation FX partners the efforts of the church and parents to help our children know, love and serve God every day. Here’s how it works:

The Church provides:
·

Curriculum - every Sunday morning, all classes Kindergarten to Fifth grade will be taught the same lesson from Group’s Faithweavers.

On Wednesday this lesson will be reinforced – ensuring we all have something to discuss in the car on the way home.

Memory Missions - Each age level will receive an eight week Memory Mission that will be reinforced at church and at home, helping our children know God’s word by heart.

Special Opportunity Service - Each month kids and parents will have an opportunity to work on a service project that benefits our community or at home suggestions are provided for families to conduct their own SOS.

Family Fun Zone – Each semester the kids and their families who have participated in SOS and completed their memory missions can attend the Family Fun Zone. It is a few hours of pure fun for the whole family!

Parents provide:

Discipling. It begins with you! We encourage all of our parents to reinforce the memory missions, talk about their children’s lessons and participate in SOS.  We’ve also challenged parents with a 20 minute initiative – five minutes each day to: Pray (when you get up), Sing (as you go along the road), Talk (when you sit down) and Read (when you lay down.)

We are all in this spiritual journey together and are excited to see how God works in our children’s lives.  See you at the Family Fun Zone!!
