Op FX – About
Spiritually growing our children to know, love and serve God is the most important part of their education. In fact, it’s the most important part of their lives! This is why we have made it our mission. We have created Operation Family Experience (Operation FX) as an initiative designed to disciple our kids – as a team.
The statistics are scary – research suggests that 85% of church attending children stop going to church when they leave home. When asked why, they refer to irrelevance and hypocrisy.
Operation FX was initiated by a focus group of parents here at Georgetown that recognized these statistics as a real threat to our children’s spiritual lives. We decided that basically taking our kids to church and letting the Sunday School teacher do all the work, did not follow the model in Deuteronomy 6:6-9, and decided to expect more of ourselves:
“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
Although the church is a vital resource to our children’s spiritual development, we realized that expecting the church to spiritually raise our kids is unrealistic.
Operation FX partners the efforts of the church and parents to help our children know, love and serve God every day.
