Spiritually growing our children to know, love and serve God is the most important part of their education. In fact, it’s the most important part of their lives! This is why we have made it our mission. We have created Operation Family Experience (Operation FX) as a new initiative designed to disciple our kids – as a team.

The statistics are scary – research suggests that 85% of church attending children stop going to church when they leave home. When asked why, they refer to irrelevance and hypocrisy.

Operation FX was initiated by a focus group of parents here at Georgetown that recognized these statistics as a real threat to our children’s spiritual lives. We decided that basically taking our kids to church and letting the Sunday School teacher do all the work, did not follow the model in Deuteronomy 6:6-9, and decided to expect more of ourselves:

“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

Although the church is a vital resource to our children’s spiritual development, we realized that expecting the church to spiritually raise our kids is unrealistic.

Operation FX partners the efforts of the Headquarters (church) and Home Base (parents) to help our Special Agents (children) know, love and serve God every day.

Headquarters provides:
· Curriculum - every Sunday morning, all classes Kindergarten to Fifth grade will be taught the same lesson. On Wednesday this lesson will be reinforced – ensuring we all have something to discuss in the car on the way home.
· Memory Missions - each age level will receive an eight week Memory Mission that will be reinforced at Headquarters and Home Base, helping our children know God’s word by heart.
· Special Operation Service - each month kids and parents will have an opportunity to work on a service project that benefits our community. Home Base provides the reinforcement of the things learned at Headquarters with a 20 minute initiative – five minutes each day to: Pray (when you get up), Sing (as you go along the road), Talk (when you sit down) and Read (when you lay down.)
All of us can help! You can teach or assist in a classroom, and all of us can pray for the children and young families of our congregation!

What would happen if you treated your Bible like you treat your cell phone?
What if you carried it around in your purse or pockets
What if you flipped through it several times a day?
What if you turned back to go get it if you forgot it?
What if you used it to receive messages from the text?
What if you treated it like you couldn’t live without it?
What if you gave it to kids as a gift?
What if you used it when you traveled?
What if you used it in case of emergency?
This is something to think about: “Where is my Bible?”
Unlike our cell phones, we don’t have to worry about our Bibles being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.
And no dropped calls!
